Dr. Ziad Butty



Dr. Ziad Butty is a licensed comprehensive ophthalmologist and glaucoma sub-specialist, currently accepting new patients with cataracts or glaucoma. Dr. Butty is affiliated with St Joseph's Health Science Centre.

He completed a Glaucoma Clinical Fellowship at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Toronto and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2016.

He previously completed two universities diplomas in glaucoma and ocular infections and inflammations at the  Xavier Bichat and Pitie-Salpetriere Universities, Paris, France. Dr Butty completed his MD degree in 2005 from University of Al-Mustansiriyah, Baghdad, Iraq.

Dr. Butty has a strong interest in teaching medical students, physician assistant students and residents. He devotes his time to humanitarian missions with the CNIB Eye Van, serving aboriginal and under-serviced communities in Northern Ontario. He started the Syrian refugee's clinic at the  Kensington Eye Institute in Toronto. He has participated in international ophthalmology and joined the annual Urban Angels Medical Mission to the Philippines.

Dr. Butty currently is a consultation specialist for the Glaucoma section for Statistics Canada Vision Quality Control Review for the Canadian Health Measures Survey. His research interests are in the area of glaucoma screening, early glaucoma detection, optic nerve imaging and visual fields.
